Going through old picture folders and sketchbooks have become a habit, especially during those times of the pandemic where everything was closed outside. I went to the Horniman Museum around two years ago and I spent a great Sunday wandering around looking for stuff to draw. It’s not nearly as famous as other museums in London but that’s probably because is not that close to the city centre. It has a bit of everything but it’s mostly focused on natural history and anthropology. There is also a small aquarium in the basement and the entrance to that is not too pricey.
Mirar carpetas de fotos y cuadernos antiguos se ha convertido en mi nuevo hábito, especialmente durante las peores épocas de la pandemia estando encerrados en casa. Fui al museo Horniman hace un par de años y pasé un domingo buenísimo explorándolo y buscando cosas que dibujar. No es ni de lejos tan famoso como otros museos de Londres pero probablemente se deba a que no está tan cerca del centro. Tiene un poco de todo aunque se centra en la antropología y la historia natural principalmente. También tiene un pqueño acuario en el sótano que no está mal de precio.
This museum is also famous for its gardens, although I must say I didn’t have time to explore them. I did, however, had the chance to draw the amazing old greenhouse, now turned into a café.
Este museo es famoso por sus jardines, aunque debo decir que no tuve tiempo para pasear por allí. Sí que pude, sin embargo, dibujar un invernadero antiguo increíble que ahora ha sido reconvertido en una cafetería.
Again, this is something that you won’t probably find in London guides but it’s definitely worth a visit, especially if you are looking for something less touristy.
De nuevo, seguramente no encontrarás este sitio en guías de Londres pero merece una visita, especialmente si buscas algo un poco menos turístico.
